What is home physiotherapy?Home physiotherapy is for people who can’t, or prefer not to, go to a clinic. I come to your home to assess and treat you. It is ideal for people who may be struggling with their mobility.
-
What types of conditions do you treat?Falls prevention Reduced mobility General weakness and reduced ability to do normal tasks Post-operative recovery Dementia and frailty Post-discharge from hospital and recovery from illness Neurological conditions such as stroke and Parkinson's Disease Osteoarthritis and other arthritic conditions Cardiovascular conditions such as Angina Respiratory conditions such as COPD and breathlessness

Why do you specialize in working with older adults?I love working with older adults and feel passionate about supporting people to maintain their independence. Having spent the last several years specialising in the care of older people in the NHS, I can see that services are limited, and people miss out on valuable rehabilitation which can improve their independence, reduce their risk of hospital admission/readmission and improve their quality of life – which is hopefully where I can come in!
-
How does home physiotherapy differ from clinic-based physiotherapy?Within a home setting, we make things as functional as possible using the things you have around your home. Struggling to get up the stairs? We’ll do therapy using your staircase. Have a goal to get outside to potter in the garden? We’ll work on that. Fearful about falling? We’ll do a complete personalised risk assessment based on your own environment and look at how we can modify your risk.
-
What qualifications & experience do you have?I initially qualified in a BSc degree in Sport & Health Science from Coventry University, before doing a Masters degree in Rehabilitation Science at Brighton University which allowed me to register as a Chartered Physiotherapist. The last 13yrs+ have been spent in the NHS, where I covered all the key areas (neurology, musculoskeletal, respiratory, trauma & orthopaedics, community, dementia) working my way up from Junior Physiotherapist to Consultant Therapist in Falls Prevention & Management, alongside professionally leading other therapists.
-
Do I need a referral from a doctor?No. I take self-referrals.
-
How do I schedule an appointment?Give me a call on 07578 212015 and we’ll get you scheduled in.
-
How long is a typical session? It can vary depending on the individual's needs. I allow 60-90 minutes for a new assessment and 50 minutes for a follow up.
-
What should I expect during my first session?I will come to your home at a prearranged time. Prior to assessment there will be a form to sign consenting to assessment and treatment and agreeing to terms and conditions. It would be really helpful if you could provide any relevant information about your condition e.g. xray or scan reports, hospital discharge letters or letters from other health professionals, alongside a list of your current medication, to help me make an informed assessment. We’ll then commence a full holistic assessment, where we will go through any past medical history and your current health. If falls prevention is indicated, we will go through an in-depth risk assessment. From this we will chat through your goals and expectations and work together to form a treatment plan.
-
What sort of treatment will I receive?Treatments are fully tailored to each individual and their goals. It may include gait re-education, mobility progression, balance training, strength training, break down of functional activities and working on key elements, exercise prescription, soft tissue massage, sensory rehab, proprioceptive rehab, pre & post operative rehab. (This is not an exhaustive list!)
-
Can I involve family members or carers in the sessions?Definitely. It is often really useful to involve family members or carers in sessions so they can continue to support/encourage the advice between sessions.
-
How many sessions will I need? The number of sessions needed will vary depending on individual circumstance and progress. Some people only need one, others benefit from a block of sessions or more regular sessions.
-
Can you help with exercises I can do between sessions?Absolutely. I will advise what you can do between sessions to support my input.
-
Do I need any equipment for home physiotherapy sessions? No. I will bring some basics and we’ll use what you have in your home.
-
What safety measures do you take during home visits, especially in light of COVID-19?For infection control precautions, I will always wash & sanitise my hands before each visit, work bare below the elbows (avoiding any watches, jewellery or nail varnish) and sanitise any equipment after each use. If a treatment requires it, I always carry disposable gloves and, although I don’t routinely wear them anymore, I always carry disposable face masks and am more than happy to wear them on request.
-
What if I have to cancel or reschedule an appointment? That is absolutely fine. All cancellations require 24 hours notice please. Without this, full payment will be incurred.
-
What are your fees/prices?Fees/prices can be found here. Additional fees may be required for additional travel, report writing, referrals, consented contact with other professionals involved in your care or researching aids/adaptations or equipment that may benefit you. These will always be discussed and agreed with you before completion.
-
How do I pay?Payment is expected at the end of each session. You can pay in cash, cheque or bank transfer.
-
Do you accept private health insurance?I currently don’t work with private health insurance companies.
-
What areas do you serve? My standard fees allow for a 5 mile radius of NG2. See map below. I’m more than happy to see clients further afield, at a charge of £3.00 per additional mile.
-
